The EIRIS Foundation is a registered charity, independent of
any other organisation. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Ethical Investment
Research Services (EIRIS) Ltd, deals with the more commercial aspects of its
work, including the services we provide to investors.
EIRIS' core business is carrying out research into social,
environmental, governance and other ethical
issues and it focuses on client concerns and requirements. We do not offer
financial or legal advice, nor do we promote any particular view on the ethical
issues we investigate. We simply provide our clients with the information they
need to put their own principles into practice, or those of their clients.
EIRIS engages in constructive dialogue with companies. Every
18 months we send them the data that we hold on them so that they can comment.
We ask for companies’ policies on each of the issues we research.
Our researchers have, over the years, built up a strong
network of contacts throughout these companies, so that they know exactly who to
contact for the information you may need. This means we get answers. And not
only do we keep our records up-to-date, but our questionnaires and the dialogue
we promote have proved successful in raising awareness among companies
unfamiliar with the concerns of responsible investors.
EIRIS researches more than 40 different areas, comprising all
the main issues of concern to responsible investors. Our monitoring of over
2,800 companies from
By using consistent research methods, we can ensure that the
companies are fairly judged against common standards. For example, we ask every
company the same questions and make sure that their answers are analysed with
clear and consistent terminology.
EIRIS does not rely solely on what companies say about
themselves - everything is analysed and cross-checked. We monitor regulatory
databases and independent information sources.
And because our researchers are authorities on their
subjects, our clients are able to benefit from our expertise as well as our
unrivalled collection of information.
Every responsible investor has a personal list of priorities.
Recognising this, EIRIS ensures its clients receive information tailor-made to
their individual concerns. Clients choose their overall approach or strategy
for their portfolio as well as the individual responsible investment criteria to apply, and
can review these at any time. Clients can also choose to focus on a particular
universe of companies such as, for example, the top 350
