Pooled Funds: The Opportunities for Responsible Investment
This seminar explored the current opportunities for charities and foundations to invest in line with mission whilst investing in pooled investment funds. Richard Harries the former Bishop of Oxford introduced the event remarking on the changes and increased interest in responsible investment for charities. Jeremy Sherwood of the HM Treasury also provided an update on the consultation around changes to the regulation of charity pooled funds

Beyond Copenhagen – what next for the City?
Over 75 fund managers, investment analysts and researchers, charities, NGOs and journalists, attended EIRIS’ seminar at the Law Society on 17 November, which was held to explore the role of the investment community in tackling climate change, the risks and opportunities for investors posed by climate change and the likely implications of the forthcoming UNFCCC meeting in Copenhagen.

A panel discussion followed between fund managers and experts from the NGO, pension watchdog, renewable energy and IFA sectors. Speakers included Craig MacKenzie, Peter Michaelis, Vicki Bakhshi, John Ditchfield, Robert Nash, Philip Wolfe and Catherine Howarth. The discussion explored themes such as access to climate change-focussed investments and the role and responsibility of stakeholders in the investment community for action on climate change.
What’s needed to mainstream green and ethical consumer finance?
Over 60 representatives from consumer organisations, financial product providers, IFAs, journalists and charities attended our seminar on 11 November at City Hall, London. As part of National Ethical Investment Week, this seminar explored what was needed to bring ethical finance further into mainstream consumer financial planning and to promote EIRIS’ new, independent, non-profit web resource for consumers, www.YourEthicalMoney.org
- Mark Robertson presented the results of EIRIS’ 2009 national consumer opinion poll undertaken to gauge consumer attitudes to green and ethical finance.
A panel discussion followed, with speakers including John Thurso MP, Barry Clavin, Chris Hewett, Charles Middleton, Sarah Pennells and EIRIS’ Mark Robertson and Peter Webster. The discussion covered themes such as barriers to further consumer interest in ethical finance, the response and approach of various product providers, how finance can be more accountable and the role of government and regulators in providing sustainable finance.
