Our research

The areas that we research are driven by our clients and are based on the issues that are most relevant to them when making investment decisions.

EIRIS research covers four main areas: environmental, social and governance areas (ESG) and areas of specific ethical concern.

Included in our research criteria are human rights and supply chain issues, evaluations of environmental management systems and reporting, board practice and structure, and involvement in the arms or tobacco industries. In total we carry out research on over 150 areas of concern to investors.

Our research methodology is designed to allow investors to compare companies’ performance against our criteria, which we apply globally. When a company is assessed by EIRIS we look at their global operations, including their subsidiaries and associates worldwide.

When we develop our criteria we consult with a wide range of stakeholders, including companies. This is particularly the case with sector-specific criteria where we value company input on best practice and the types of initiatives that companies are taking.

EIRIS has recently gained certification under the Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility Research Quality Standard. This voluntary quality standard is a set of guidelines, rules and commitments that will provide evidence on the transparency, accountability, verifiability and quality of the processes involved in our research.
